Maytag Blue
How to Choose the Best
Maytag Blue cheese is a semi-hard cow’s milk cheese that is creamy white with veins of a bluish mold. Maytag Blue is a crumbly cheese and is known for its spicy, piquant flavor and aroma. Each wheel of cheese is aged for about 6 months. Always check the expiration date on the package when selecting Maytag Blue to make sure the product is as fresh as possible and won’t spoil within a few days.
Shelf Life and Storage
Store Maytag Blue cheese in the refrigerator, either in a deli drawer or on a refrigerator shelf. Maytag Blue cheese can last for anywhere from a few weeks up to a month when properly wrapped. Remove the outer crust, wrap in aluminum foil and store in the refrigerator in an airtight container or resealable plastic bag. Once the original foil wrap is opened, make sure to rewrap the cheese and immediately return it to the refrigerator.
Freezing

Maytag Blue cheese can be frozen, but its texture will change slightly. Wrap in foil and then seal in a plastic bag. When ready to use, defrost the cheese in the refrigerator in the foil wrapper. Keep the cheese in the foil until it is completely defrosted and brought to room temperature.
Preparation Suggestions
Maytag Blue cheese is excellent served on its own or with a variety of nuts, fresh and dried fruits, crackers and breads. It is often used as part of a cheese course at the end of a meal. Try Maytag Blue crumbled or sliced as a garnish on salads. Maytag Blue cheese is also a great addition to steak and sauces, dips, soups, salad dressings, vegetables, pastas, soufflés, gratins and tartlets.
